Privacy policy

How we protect, curate and handle personal data and cultural records submitted to the archive.

1. Data collection and use

We collect personal information when you apply as a contributor, create a studio account or send us a message: your name, contact details and community links. It is used only for authentication, research categorisation and communication about your submitted artifacts or recorded stories.

2. Cultural integrity and intellectual property

All photographs, 3D scans, transcriptions and audio uploaded to the platform are curated by National Museums of Kenya and Technical University of Mombasa experts. Narration and storytelling by community elders remain community-owned. Records are made accessible for non-commercial educational use under the licence shown on each record.

3. Data security and storage

The platform runs on secured servers in a managed database. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. Personal data is never sold, traded or shared with advertisers, and the site uses no tracking cookies — only a sign-in cookie for studio users. To delete your contributor profile or remove materials from the catalogue, contact us.
